Long Cocktail Dress

Magic Munich Blog Wrap dress

If you are invited to some special event, it’s easy to come underdressed and be a mousy comparing to other guests. It’s also quite easy to come overdressed and look like a wedding cake or a girl from an Bollywood movie.

So what’s the balance point of a special occasion outfit? It’s the length. Look, if you put on a short or midi dress, it can have some special elements, like complicated design, sequins, beading, lace, etc. The short length will balance out the embellishments. Side note here: please don’t overdo with embellishments – know your limits šŸ˜‰

The maxi dresses demand a different handling – a long dress is per se already special only because it’s long. So adding some decoration can easily pop it to the level of the red carpet – and if you are not going to a red carpet event, beware šŸ™‚

For a long cocktail dress I would suggest plain fabrics and simple designs – just like my silky wrap dress. No extra elements or decorations, just suitable shoes and purse in the same color scheme.

And don’t think wearing a plain maxi dress will leave you unnoticed at the event – as Coco Chanel said “Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.”
