Fashion police

Have you ever caught yourself with a thought about someone, who is dressed inappropriately for their age? Maybe you thought something like “this person is too old to wear this outfit” or “this would look better on a younger girl”. There is a word for that, and it’s called ageism and this is only one of the reasons why people are playing fashion police.

People tend to judge others about their looks. But is it right to think that some clothing / outfit is suitable only for a certain age? Definitely not! If it’s about someone we don’t know personally, we usually are not familiar with the exact age (some people don’t look like their age), with their lifestyle or work conditions (their job may require this specific type of clothing) or their family background. And frankly, this is none of our business.

Usually we catch a glimpse on this person for a short moment of time and we don’t know nothing about what this person was going to do and for which particular reasons did he/she dress like that. For example, if you see me heading to a rock concert, you’d see me in jeans, band t-shirt, biker jacket and lot’s of spicky bracelets. This would definitely not represent my style, but also if it would – it’s only up to me what to wear.

That’s why I don’t really like some fashion magazines having a fashion police section – mostly they post photos of celebrities going out for grocery shopping or walking their dog – no one would actually expect you bringing your A-game here.

So let’s stop judging and playing fashion police. Finding your authentic style and wearing it independently from the opinion of other people can bring much more joy to your life šŸ™‚
